Sheryl Betnar was a committed and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse, with long standing Manitoba Nurses Union (MNU) activism serving as a Worksite President in Flin Flon, MB for many years.
To honor her memory, MNU members in the Northern Region Nurses Local established the Sheryl Betnar Bursary and Scholarship Fund.
This fund was created with the hopes that it will assist university/college students and existing nurse members within the Northern Region in establishing and/or advancing their career in nursing.
The committee that oversees the Scholarship and Bursary Fund is comprised of volunteer, not for profit committee members that are entirely MNU members throughout various Worksites in the Northern Health Region.
While decisions on eligibility and amounts awarded is decided upon by general MNU Northern Regional Nurses Local membership at regional meetings, the committee is responsible for receiving applications and determining successful applicants.
Our current committee members are:
Naomi Nickerson - Chair
Becki Gustafson - Committee Member
Committee Advisor
Ronnie Keough
The advisor is responsible for receiving and reviewing applicants, ensuring they meet eligibility requirements, and removing any identifying information. Following this, the application is then forwarded onto the committee for determination of the successful applicant following the annual deadline. This ensures the committee is able to choose applicants in an anonymous and unbiased manner.
